Iran has released plans to build a new pipeline to increase gas flow out of the country, according to deputy director of the National Iranian Gas Company Mostafa Kashkouli.

The company hope to build diverging pipelines for exporting gas to Syria, Iraq and European countries. Kashkouli has said that building pipelines to these regions is part of the National Iranian Gas Company’s agenda.

The country has experienced several gas flow problems over the winter as Europe was braced for a cold chill in early February. Turkey's gas imports from Azerbaijan and Iran tumbled due to technical problems in both countries at the start of the month, which cut supply to the country of 75 million people as it faces growing pressure to meet high winter demand.

Iran's distribution network will be strengthened through the construction of these new pipelines, adding to the 34,000 kilometres of pipeline that is already in place. Iraq has stated that it requires between ten and 15 million cubic meters of Iran's gas while Syria needs about 15 to 20 million cubic metres and Lebanon wants five to seven million cubic metres until 2020.
