The Young Future Energy Leaders (YFEL) initiative could help to provide funding for biofuel testing and innovation in the Middle East.

Schemes in sustainability and renewable energy can receive funding and support from the Masdar Institute to help drive the development of clean power in the United Arab Emirates.

Dr Fred Moavenzadeh, president of the institute, says: "YFEL is a unique outreach programme of the Masdar Institute that offers the brightest young minds the opportunity to interact."

This interaction is with business leaders and government representatives across the region who can help to drive forward the legislative and funding agendas needed for projects.

Meanwhile, Ban Ki-Moon, secretary general of the United Nations, has praised Masdar for its approach to developing renewable power and clean technologies.

He spoke during a visit to the region of the "overall benefits to all" that arise from a focus on clean energy.

This could include projects such as undertaking biofuel testing or installing wind and hydroelectric technologies.
