With the government looking away from hand-picking renewable power projects to receive funding, private investment into
biofuel and other eco-friendly energy sources could be among the bulk of the sector's growth in the future.
MPs Chris Huhne and Vince Cable explain that the UK government has a poor track record at choosing the correct projects to place investment into.
Instead of continuing this troubled process, the coalition is now looking instead to provide incentives to spur private investment into alternative energy sources, which could include
biofuel alongside solar, wind and water methods.
"The bulk of investment in sustainable low-carbon growth will need to come from the private sector," the ministers say.
"To make this happen, we aim to establish a long-term framework of incentives and a policy framework to mobilise private-sector capital."
