The potential to use domestic waste as a larger component in
biofuel composition could help to tackle a number of problems in the years to come.
In February 2011, delegates are due to meet in Chicago to discuss the possibilities presented by converting municipal solid waste into biomass for energy generation.
According to the organisers of the Municipal Solid Waste to Biofuels summit, US citizens average a daily waste output of five pounds - about 2.27 kg.
By 2020, it is hoped that more than half of all current gasoline fuels could be replaced by biofuels produced from municipal solid waste.
However, event organiser EyeforEnergy suggests that collaboration is needed to ensure the ultimate
biofuel composition used is low-cost and able to strengthen energy supply chains.
More than 120 waste management and biofuel decision-makers are expected to attend the summit, including many who are already succeeding in realising the business potential of renewable energy.
