The US Department of Energy (DoE) has announced two separate funding initiatives for
biofuel testing schemes aimed at furthering the technology required to adopt greener resources.
Up to $4.5 million (£3 million) is allocated to three projects grouped into a single research area - the study of landscapes capable of yielding bioenergy feedstock in ecologically friendly ways.
In order to do this, a commitment to protecting wildlife resources, water and soil must be upheld.
Meanwhile, up to $12 million may be invested over a three-year period into four
biofuel testing projects focused on the transport sector.
All of these are looking into ways in which biofuels can be produced that are compatible with existing transportation infrastructure.
The DoE has outlined a further $10 million in funding for more general projects in energy research.
Comprising studies at universities, businesses, charities and national laboratories, these look at all aspects of power consumption in order to identify ways to raise efficiency levels.
