Companies undertaking biofuel analysis under the guidelines of the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation (RTFO) should continue to do so in the run-up to April 1st, says the Renewable Fuels Agency (RFA).

At that time, the RFA is due to be dissolved, with the Department for Transport (DfT) taking over responsibility for the governance of the RTFO.

Meanwhile, RFA staff are expected to join the DfT, with the exception of some high-level individuals within the existing organisation whose roles are being dropped.

However, the agency has told companies participating in the RTFO that they should ensure they continue to carry out the necessary biofuel analysis to support their reporting obligations under the initiative.

The guidance comes in the latest Renewable Fuels Digest, the agency's monthly publication which highlights pertinent issues to those using ecologically sound energy sources.

With the RFA due to be dissolved at the end of March, it says there is only likely to be one more issue of the digest before its operations become a part of the DfT's remit.
