Biofuel analysis published by MarketResearch.com notes the prospects for the Chinese and Indian economies presented by the growth of modified starches.
"Modified starch remains a very attractive area due to high margins and many universal food and industrial applications," the research firm says.
Its
biofuel analysis lists "hundreds or even thousands" of applications for modified starches in biologically derived energy and plastics.
With this growth potential in place, global competition for a share of the market is forecasted.
China and India are leading growth at present with four to five per cent annually, driven strongly by the generation of bioethanol.
In the EU and US, expansion of the market is closer to two per cent, leading to the prediction that those economies will soon focus their attentions on global competition.
