VHG’s (USA) Soot Content Standards are used in the determination of soot content in 15W40 diesel motor oil by Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) or other technique. If regularly monitored, the formation of soot can be used to indicate engine performance problems and engine failure. Oil testing labs and engine testing labs can benefit from regularly monitoring the amount of soot in their engines. VHG’s Soot Content Standards are manufactured and certified under VHG’s quality control system that is registered to both ISO 9001:2000 and ISO/IEC 17025:2005.   They are available individually in concentrations ranging from blank to 12% or as a set of six. The certified concentrations are determined analytically by TGA Analysis in accordance with ASTM D5967, Appendix A4.
