Checking the quality of biofuel is quicker and simpler using the Viscolite® VL700 portable viscometer from global viscosity measurement specialists Hydramotion Ltd (UK). Viscosity is a critical test parameter for determining biofuel quality and suitability for use, yet traditional methods of viscosity measurement are cumbersome and time-consuming. By contrast, the Viscolite® portable viscometer provides instant viscosity
measurement anywhere, in factory, field or lab.
The instrument consists of a solid 316-stainless steel probe connected by a flexible coiled lead to a battery-powered display unit. Viscosity can be read off as soon as the probe is dipped into the sample. The instrument can be used in any volume of fluid, from a cupful to a tank. The sensor can be cleaned with a single wipe after use, making the Viscolite ideal for the rapid assessment of samples or batches in situ. The standard model has a range of 0 to 10,000 cP in fluids at –20 to +120 °C. There is an integrated thermometer, which means temperature-corrected readings can also be obtained on the spot. The instrument has very high accuracy and sensitivity and excellent repeatability, even at low viscosity.
Also available is a mains-powered benchtop version with 4 - 20 mA analogue and RS232 serial outputs. Factory-calibrated to traceable international standards, the Viscolite is immediately ready for use, with no need for on-site calibration or day-to-day adjustment. It has no seals, bearings or moving parts to wear out. Battery life is long, thanks to the instrument’s modest power requirements. Rugged construction and solid-state design eliminate maintenance. The instrument is supplied in its own weather resistant carrying case, making it truly portable.
