On April 23 through 26, dozens of aviation fuels experts from around the world met in Lima, Peru, for a two-day training course as well as the meeting of ASTM International’s aviation fuels subcommittee (D02.J).

The training course, “Aviation Fuels: Specifications and Test Methods,” focused on how technical standards help control the quality of aviation fuels and why they affect product performance and availability.

The D02.J meeting included: technical discussions on standards and ballot items, an overview of the history of jet fuel standardization, progress in using synthetic jet kerosene, the jet fuel industry in Latin America, and more.

Pictured is Onofre Andrade, Senior R&D Coordinator for Sustainable Alternative Fuels at Boeing Brasil, who gave the keynote address on the growing role of biofuel development in Latin America and the impact of regulations on usage in the aviation fuel industry.
