TUV Rheinland has confirmed the suitability of the Schischek Max range of Spring Return Electric Quarter Turn actuators for use in safety related systems according to IEC 61508 up to and including SIL2.

For over 30 years now Schischek (Germany)has supplied electric explosion proof products to a wide range of industrial sectors including Oil & Gas (Onshore and Offshore), Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Water Treatment and Ship building.

Schischek products are already approved for operation in hazardous areas in accordance in accordance with ATEX 94/9/EG, IEC-Ex, Gost-Ex, CSA and UL.

Now TUV certifies that the actuators meet the requirements of IEC 61508 for safety critical related systems. Importantly the Max range of quarter turn electric actuators feature the integrated security function for Fail Safe or Fail Open, specifically, in the event of an emergency the actuator performs a rotating operation to its end position by means of a mechanical spring.

Applications include air and smoke damper actuation as well as ball and butterfly valve actuation. The inclusion of a rotary to linear conversion mechanism to the Max actuator, the Lin adaption, means that rising stem control and globe valves can now benefit from mechanical spring return.

The integrated mechanical safety function, rather than a battery or capacitor based back-up system, allows the use of Max actuators in automation concepts requiring adherence to IEC 61608 up to and including SIL2.

In keeping with the company slogan:

Schischek - Security for Life. Health. Assets.
