Hydratight receives British Safety Council commendation for record

Nov 28 2011

A leading engineering firm which specialises in gas detection and sealing has won a prestigious and exclusive UK safety award.

Hydratight has become the latest in a small handful of companies to have been awarded the British Safety Council's Sword of Honour, in recognition of its challenging work in highly dangerous environments and circumstances.

The award commends the oil and gas engineering work carried out by the company, while continuously reviewing its safety policy and making risk management central to everything the firm does.

Hydratight safety manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, David Stout, described the award as a "tremendous honour", coming shortly after the company received the highest five-star council rating for its UK facilities.

He added: "It is given that we have to be experts at the work we do; but after that, safety is the most important topic for all our staff, everywhere."

The British Safety Council recently underlined there is no "one-size-fits-all" solution to risk management.

Speaking at a University of Oxford symposium, council chair Lynda Armstrong said she wanted to see measures that are "proportionate and sensible" using "considerable knowledge and expertise".
