An Scottish oil and gas consultancy has launched a programme of seminars aimed at improving awareness of personal safety protocols in the industry.

Aberdeen-based Embrion is targeting leaders, coaches, HR professionals and health and safety managers in the oil and gas industry with its new services.

Professor of psychology and business consultant Dr Jonathan Passmore and former Royal Marine Jim McGovern own Embrion and have collaborated on developing the courses.

The tailored seminars cover aspects including how technology can improve performance and personal safety, as well as skills training, management coaching and safety training.

In the first scheduled seminar on Tuesday 19th March, the team addressed the question 'does coaching work?'

Dr Passmore commented: "By the end of the seminar it is hoped delegates will understand the fundamentals of coaching and how coaching can contribute towards work performance. The seminar will also help people understand what to look for when recruiting a coach.”

Further topics will be covered throughout the year. The company is also an Institute of Leadership and Managers provider and ILM-accredited courses will be included in the year's programme.

In addition, Embrion offers a wide variety of services delivered by a team of psychologists and consultants that focus on skills, leadership, personal safety and organisational change, among other matters.

Recently, international research suggested that a lack of experienced workers in the sector is leading to greater personal safety risk for workers.

The Global Oil & Gas Workforce Survey: Expectations for hires and pay rates in the oil and gas industry 2013 report was produced by OilCareers.com and Air Energi and interviewed more than 170,000 oil and gas professionals around the world.

Liquefied natural gas and subsea operations are particularly at risk due to the skill shortage, it said.
