Rae Extends Its Intrinsic Safety Accreditations With INMETRO Certifications in Brazil
Sep 16 2010
Rae Systems Inc. (USA) recently announced several of its leading gas-detection instruments have received INMETRO certifications in Brazil following accredited testing that meets strict requirements to ensure the equipment provides intrinsic safety. The certificates were issued by CEPEL (Brazilian Electrical Energy Research Center), a Brazilian certification body recognized by INMETRO (National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality). Rae Systems is a leader in delivering innovative sensor solutions to serve industrial, energy, environmental and government safety markets worldwide.
In Brazil, like many parts of the world, all electrical or electronic equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres are required to be certified by accredited certification bodies. Intrinsic safety ensures that electrical and thermal energy in equipment is low enough to prevent ignition of hazardous, and potentially flammable, substances present in air.
Many instruments from RAE Systems are certified as intrinsically safe from certification bodies worldwide, including UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.) in the U.S., ATEX (a directive of the European Union) in Europe and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) in Canada. RAE Systems also has been re-certified in Europe under ISO 9001:2008, which is part of the ISO 9000 suite of standards for quality management systems.
