Dutch Partner in Egyptian Calibration Facility for Natural Gas Flow Meters

Jul 31 2008

The Minister of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands, Mrs Van der
Hoeven, together with the Minister of Petroleum of Egypt, Mr Fahmy
witnessed the signing of a Letter of Understanding (LoU) between NMi
(The Netherlands), EMC and EGAS (both Egypt) for the development and
establishment of a new calibration facility for natural gas flow meters in Egypt (ECF).
Minister Van der Hoeven visited the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum in Cairo to discuss the interests of Dutch industry in Egypt. NMi was part of a delegation with other companies including Vopak, Gasunie, Port of Rotterdam, 4Gas and DHV, all interested in forming business ties with the fast growing Egyptian Oil and Gas sector.
Minister Van der Hoeven was well prepared and introduced NMi as a global leading metrology institute to the Egyptian delegates. Measuring Oil & Gas flows on industrial scale is one of the core activities of NMi.
Pieter van Breugel introduced the partners after signing the LoU: “We signed this LoU together with the Egyptian Maintenance Company EMC and the Natural Gas Holding Company EGAS. With the involvement of NMi as independent metrology institute in ECF, a traceable gas measurement infrastructure is guaranteed for Egypt and the region.”
Paul van Enckevort, Manager Sales and Product Development of NMi added: “This is the result of two years of lobbying and discussing. By signing this Letter of Understanding we have achieved an important milestone and we are now ready to proceed together with EMC to focus on the implementation of technical details.”
Jacques Schmit, Business Development Manager of NMi explained the project: “In the first phase, we will facilitate the development of the Egyptian Calibration Facility (ECF) from a metrological point of view,
by providing know-how, technology and training. In the operational phase NMi will be responsible for calibrations through a Metrology Management Contract with ECF, leading to NMi certificates.”
The Egyptian Calibration Facility will be located in Badr City near Cairo, Egypt. Natural gas flow meters varying from 7 to 45 Bar will be calibrated in this facility.
