Industrial Scientific Corporation (USA) was named a finalist in the Pittsburgh Business Times Manufacturer of the Year award. The program annually honours manufacturers in the 10-county Pittsburgh region that have achieved growth through innovation and process improvements.
The awards were divided into four categories based on the number of employees in each company. The judging was based, in part, on product innovation and differentiation, growth in sales revenue and personnel, and the company’s plans for sustaining that growth into the future.

“We’re proud of our manufacturing achievements and we’re thankful to be recognized for them,” said Dan Timco, Directorof Manufacturing and Supply Chain. The improvements that we made in the past few years have allowed us to better serve our customers. We’re now able to meet or exceed their high expectations with sameday delivery on 80 percent of shipments. More importantly, we reduced our lead times while improving the high level of quality that we’ve always been known for.”

These accomplishments were realized through the implementation of several manufacturing and supply chain management “best practices.” Processes such as Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing as well as single-flow, cellular manufacturing and kanban material management have helped to increase customer service and efficiency while decreasing cost.
