World Heavy Oil Congress 2016 To Explore Strategies for The Future

May 15 2016

The global oil industry in in a constant state of evolution, and for the past decade the World Heavy Oil Congress has fastidiously followed its progress. Every year the event connects world leaders, international experts and heavy oil professionals from across the globe. Despite the fact that the current economic climate has thrown the oil industry into turmoil, this year’s conference is shaping up to be one of the biggest, and most innovative to date. Attendees will engage in momentous discussions regarding the future of the industry, and the challenges and opportunities it faces. Calgary will host the event, a fitting choice given the city is home to more than 1,700 energy corporations.

Four days of forecasting

Over the course of four days a comprehensive conference program will unfold, spotlighting both technical and business sessions. Attendees will be given the chance to attend world-class elite networking events, and gain first hand insight into what’s next for the deeply shaken heavy oil sector.

“In the current economy, some companies have taken a step back,” comments dmg Events’ Vice-President of Energy, Miki Reeder. “But we have been pleasantly surprised to see that there is a substantial amount of organizations who are taking this as an opportunity to bring themselves to the forefront of the industry and showcase themselves as strong leaders.”

Revitalising the heavy oil industry

Every year the congress is underpinned by a theme, with 2016’s event centred around the concept of “Connecting the Industry for a Leaner, Fitter Future.” This mantra will define every aspect of the event, as keynote speakers attempt to revitalise the industry and position heavy oil as a fundamental strand of the global energy landscape.

As well as repeating successful elements from previous years, 2016’s instalment will introduce attendees to a host of exciting new features, including the inaugural World Heavy Oil Awards. The Conference Program has also been enhanced, put together by a panel of 55 Executive Committee members. Drawing on the in-house expertise of companies such as Shell, GE, Chevron, Repsol, Suncor, Baker Hughes, Schlumberger and ExxonMobil, the quartet of conferences will explore different aspects of the heavy oil industry.

Industry events such as the World Heavy Oil Congress play a pivotal role in connecting industry professionals.
