Shell Global Solutions to give keynote presentation at 2nd Biofuels International expo & conference Lionel Clarke, Global strategic programme manager for Innovation at Shell Global Solutions,  joins the list of 40 high level speakers at Biofuels International expo & conference 2009.

Shell is a world leader in R&D into next generation biofuels. Its technology division Shell Global Solutions has a dedicated bio-team working at several centres around the world and has forged multiple partnerships to accelerate its work.

The company’s aim is to narrow down the technology options to a feasible set of commercial solutions.

Just two examples of this programme are its collaborations with Iogen and Choren:

With Canadian company Iogen, Shell is working to develop the fuel ethanol from wheat straw.

The partnership began in 2002; the first commercial demonstration plant opened in Ottawa in 2004; and design and feasibility of a full-scale commercial plant are now being assessed.

With German company Choren Shell is working to develop a new, high-performance fuel from wood residue, called BTL. The partnership began in 2005 and the first commercial demonstration plant opened in Freiberg in 2008.

UK-based Bentley Motors, one of the latest vehicle manufacturers to announce it is developing bioethanol powered versions of its cars, is also giving a keynote presentation at the event.

Other key speakers in the programme include top biofuels producers such as Ineos Bio; Argent Energy; Tereos; EOP Biodiesel; Inbicon and 3B Biofuels and experts such as the Port of Amsterdam; Mabanaft; eBIO; European Biodiesel Board; Renewable Fuels Agency; Decal storage terminal; European Biomass Association and Bronzeoak.

The two day conference and exhibition will be held for the second time in Amsterdam on the 27-28 May.

Last year the event attracted over 500 attendees and similar numbers are expected this year.
