OI Analytical, a Xylem brand, is raising the bar on pulsed flame photometric detector technology with its 5383 Pulsed Flame Photometric Detector (PFPD). As the second generation of OI Analytical’s patented PFPD, this new model proves to be more compact, modular, and offers greater ease of use without sacrificing the instrument’s accuracy.

With a 10-fold increase in sensitivity over most traditional FPDs and a significant improvement in signal processing, the 5383 PFPD allows for easier analysis of sulfur, phosphorous, and other elements. Intuitive, easy-to-use software with integrated monitoring further supports the system by providing a powerful tool for parameter optimisation, data analysis, and more.

Things you should know about OI Analytical’s 5383 PFPD:

  • Provides linear, equimolar response for quick, easy calibrations
  • Simultaneously measures mutually selective chromatograms (e.g., S+C, or S+P)
  • Self-cleaning feature eliminates soot formation seen in other sulfur-selective detectors
  • New design provides separate electronics and flow modules
  • Offers better long-term stability and less maintenance than other S-selective detectors, such as SCD/XRF.

The 5383 PFPD is the key technology in OI Analytical’s S-PRO 3200, a custom-configured, turn-key GC system for selective, high-sensitivity measurement of sulfur compounds in gas-phase samples and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) streams, such as propylene and ethylene.
