Cambridge Viscosity (USA) announces that the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) has developed a new standard test method - ASTM D 7483-08 - for the Determination of Dynamic and Kinematic Viscosity of Liquids by Oscillating Piston Viscometer.

Oscillating piston viscometers allow viscosity measurement and control of a broad range of fluids including those that are transparent, translucent and opaque. The measurement function of the viscometer is fully automatic to reduce measurement errors. An electromagnetic piston maintains a continuous fresh sample while under test and requires a small sample volume.

The new test method can be particularly suitable for many petroleum products and lubricants for bearings, gears, compressor cylinders, hydraulic equipment, fine and general chemicals and coatings where proper viscosity is important for product performance.

“This designation enables us to provide our customers with ASTM recognized technology for both lab and production areas,” says CEO Robert Kasameyer. “We are pleased to help the industry by providing a new standard and to assist our customers achieve consistent, traceable and repeatable results.”

“The new ASTM method is part of a brand new product line to be announced in March,” says Arthur Hindman, executive vice president.  “Together, the latest ASTM standard and our highly advanced viscometer system will provide a powerful new tool in viscosity management.”
