New Sample Preparation Method For Determining Rare Earth Elements In Crude Oils

Dec 28 2014

Do you want to process all kinds of crude oils including heavy and extra heavy crude oils? Do you have problems to achieve the required limits of quantification? Do you have interferences during the measurement due to high acid concentrations? Do you want to save time? Do you want to reduce your acid consumption?

If you answer one or more of the questions above with YES, Anton Paar (Austria) has the perfect solution for you:

Multiwave PRO, the master of sample preparation methods enables microwave-assisted UV (ultraviolet)-Digestion prior to rare earth analysis which is used to identify the crude oil origin, maturity, migration and correlation of oil to source rock. UV radiation is generated in situ by immersed electrode-less cadmium discharge microwave-lamps. The UV lamps are directly immersed into the sample solution of each quartz reaction vessel. In contrast to wet digestion, diluted instead of concentrated acids are sufficient to obtain complete digestions.  Therefore, no extra dilution step between the sample preparation and the analysis is necessary providing extremely low limits of quantifications. The minimised residual carbon content prevents interferences during the measurement further reducing the achievable limits of quantification. Compared to conventional methods digestion temperatures in Multiwave PRO are not limited to the boiling point of the reaction mixture providing an exponential improvement of the digestion and a significant reduction in process time. Reaction parameters such as temperature and pressure are continuously controlled and documented, to ensure high quality and reproducibility of digestion reactions.
