Shell will be deploying a high-capacity bunker barge with the latest
flowmeter technology to the set up operations at Jebel Ali Port, in Dubai.
The 8,000 tonne barge will be one of the first vessels to use mass flowmeters in the Middle East as Shell aims to use the technology to increase transparency in the quantity measurement of marine fuels delivery.
Shell is the only global integrated energy company to have set up operations at Jebel Ali Port and the move goes to further reinforce its growth strategy in the area.
"The strategic location of Jebel Ali Port, a fast-growing container port, puts Shell in an excellent position to support liners operating in the Middle East," said Richard Jory, general manager, Shell Markets Middle East Limited in Dubai.
Shell's introduction of the latest flowmeter technology into the Middle East will help encourage improves accuracy to the fuel delivery process across the globe.
Jesper Rosenkrans Odum, Business Development Manager, Maersk Oil Trading, welcomed the move and said that integrity in the custody transfer of fuel is an important issue in bunkering and the marine industry.
