Multiphase meters are becoming increasingly popular devices for measuring multiphase flows of oil, gas and water mixtures, according to Offshore Mag.

Flow assurance is vital for multiphase flows, owing to the fact that failures can be extremely costly and can cause safety issues. The meters cost less to install and have a lower operational expenditure, as well as an increased capability associated maintenance costs. It also ensures that there is a minimal loss of production through well shutdowns during tests.

Multiphase meters are popular for subsea activities, which are becoming increasingly popular as new terrains are explored in increasingly dangerous places. The meters can reduce the required piping infrastructure and have the capability on each well, allowing users to continually monitor production.

In terms of accuracy, the multiphase meters depend on the accuracy of the fluid properties data employed for flow calculations. Pipeline fluid sampling of multiphase flows is essential for accurate data, which allows fuel to be well allocated and lowers increased flow assurance risks.
