Fixed Gas Monitor
One Controller for All Types of Fixed Gas Detection Systems
Jan 10 2008
The atmosphere on this planet consists of 20,9 % oxygen, 79 % nitrogen and a number of other gases in small quantities. Other than in nature, this can change rapidly in chemical or petrochemical plants. To maintain safety, it is essential to detect any leakage of toxic or combustible gases soon enough to avoid a dangerous situation to rise.Depending on which gas may occur, various methods of detection and sensor designs may be used in a plant.
To avoid a mix of control modules in the control room, Compur Monitors (Germany) offers a controller capable to handle the whole zoo of sensor heads. No matter which sensing technology is used in the field, for the handling of the signal always the same tool can be used. One controller together with a sensor head forms a complete gas detection system. Each controller features everything it takes.
Great in performance, modest in requirements: Small in size and energy efficient (5 W at 24 V DC) it offers three powerful relays, of which each can handle 2 A and an analogue 4 – 20 mA output to be connected to a recording device or PC.
Each controller provides a half bridge, display unit, relay station, and calibration interface for catalytic and infrared sensors. (If a very long cable has to be used, it even provides two “senseâ€Â contacts compensating the voltage drop in the cable) It also includes a display unit, and relay station for transmitters operating as source and sink.
Sensor heads and peripheral devices are very easy to connect, as all terminals are accessible from the front. The 24 V DC power supply as well as the alarm signals run on a bus connector from one controller to the next. Thus it is very easy forming alarm groups each with an audible alarm that can be separately reset.
The following parameters are programmed by push button; type of the sensor head connected, measuring range, measuring unit (% volume, ppm, % LEL), bridge voltage, gas to be detected, zero and span of catalytic or infrared sensors, alarm thresholds, alarm high / low, alarm latching / non latching, relays active / passive and a test program for peripheral instruments generating 4, 12 und 20 mA.
The Statox 501 Controller makes access to high class gas detection easy and cheap. No investment in central units and racks required!
