National Grid Selects New Calibrator / Communicator
National Grid has decided to select the DPI620IS from GE’s Sensing business (UK) as the portable instrument calibration and communication device to provide a complete solution to manage its field calibration requirements. The calibration instruments will be used primarily in compressor stations and gas terminals of the company’s gas transmission network to calibrate a wide range of instrumentation.
National Grid owns and operates the National Transmission System throughout Great Britain and transporting gas in the safest, most secure and most reliable way. The National Transmission System (NTS) is the high pressure part of the transmission system and consists of more than 6,600 kilometres of top quality welded steel pipeline, operating at up to 85 bar (1250 psi), with strategically located compressor stations. The gas is then supplied to 40 power stations, a small number of industrial consumers and twelve Local Distribution Zones (LDZs) and finally through pipes at lower pressure to domestic and commercial consumers.
Reliable and accurate instrumentation in compressor stations, gas terminals and on pipelines is an essential element of National Grid’s operating regime. It is also vital that all instrumentation is calibrated at regular intervals to ensure that reliability and accuracy is maintained. This in-service calibration is carried out by a dedicated team of field engineers and the decision to equip them with the DPI620IS will bring a wide range of new capabilities and benefits...........................
