Next-Level XRF Analysis of Petroleum Products
Dec 15 2014
Analysis of additives and wear metals in used lubricating oils using AxiosmAX-Petro with Oil-Trace
Elemental analysis with XRF is already the key to the control of quality and production processes in the many industries analysing a wide range of oil products. The AxiosmAX-Petro in combination with Oil-Trace brings XRF analysis of petroleum products to the next level. Clear improvements to the accuracy of wear metals and additives analysis, required for the control and monitoring of unused and used lubricating oils, have been demonstrated.
Oil-Trace performs innovative corrections for variations in the hydrocarbon composition and the sample volume. This results in robust calibrations, capable of analysing different sample types, and in methods insensitive to variations in the amount of sample being analysed. Finally, the XRF method benefits from a simple sample preparation and the stability of the AxiosmAX-Petro is such that individual calibrations can be used for months. Time-consuming re-standardisations are unnecessary and the resultant data are consistent over time.
