Alison Norden (University of Strathclyde)
Dr Alison Nordon is currently a Reader in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. She is also a lead academic in the Centre for Process Analytics and Control Technology (CPACT) and the EPSRC Centre for Continuous Manufacturing and Advanced Crystallisation (CMAC) Future Manufacturing Research Hub. Alison obtained a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry and a PhD in solid-state NMR spectroscopy from the University of Durham, UK. She then moved to the University of Strathclyde where she held Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow posts with CPACT. Between 2004 and 2012, she held a Royal Society University Research Fellowship in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde. In 2006, she was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department and was promoted to Senior Lecturer and Reader in 2011 and 2016, respectively. Alison has over 20 years experience in non-invasive and in situ spectroscopic (near and mid infrared, Raman, UV-Visible and NMR) and acoustic measurements, signal processing and chemometrics in the field of process analysis. She has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers in this field covering technique and instrumentation development, fundamental investigations to enhance the understanding of techniques through to application of techniques across a wide range of industries, e.g. pharmaceutical, petrochemical and speciality chemicals. She has extensive experience of multi-disciplinary research and interaction with industry and she is the strategic theme co-ordinator for Measurement Science and Enabling Technologies at the University of Strathclyde.
