Sitrans LG200 Handles Challenging Oil and Gas Applications

One traditional method of level measurement in the oil and gas industry
is displacer devices. However, they are often limited by high price,
costly maintenance and repair, and inaccurate measurements as they are
affected by density changes. SITRANS LG200 operates independent of changes in product density, is unaffected by the upper gas phase and the two side process connections on the vessel. Replacing the displacer with a SITRANS LG200 enables plants and refineries to achieve significant cost savings by eliminating the need for regular displacer maintenance and calibration, which can require a total plant shutdown.
In oil production, water or steam is often used to lift oil out of a well. The position of this liquid interface is critical - too little or too much either way will end up with either water being drawn out with the hydrocarbon, or hydrocarbon remaining in the tank. If allowed to settle undisturbed in a tank, the mixture will separate into its two components, with the heavier, denser material sinking to the bottom and the lighter, less dense material rising to the top. SITRANS LG200 coaxial probe can provide an accurate interface level measurement of clean liquids, particularly in hydrocarbon and water separation. Further, continuous, online monitoring of the interface level can be transmitted via a 4 to 20 mA signal to the customer's DCS or SCADA system.
