As regulators across the globe move to more restrictive regulations on sulfur content in a variety of fuels, there is a furthered need to maximize the precision of analysis methodologies. With multiple methodology options for sulfur analysis available, care must be taken to select a method that produces the least amount of variability in measurements.

ASTM Proficiency Testing Programs are statistical quality assurance programs that enable laboratories to evaluate and improve performance. This paper will discuss the ASTM PTP for sulfur results for Reformulated Gasoline and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel programs from 2019-2021 using the most common test methods for low sulfur automotive fuels: D7039, D2622, and D5453. Data collected on an XOS analyzer that utilizes D7039 monochromatic excitation in both D7039 and D2622 measurement modes has been reviewed to fully understand the ability to couple D2622 method compliance with superior D7039 precision.

Learn which method demonstrated the best performance for reproducibility, and how XOS' D7039 analyzers demonstrate excellent precision in both D7039 and D2622 mode.
