Airport waste oil to be transformed into biodiesel

An airport concessions developer has partnered up with a biofuel company to turn waste oil from airport cooking facilities into biodiesel. Airmall USA has joined up with Greenlight Biofuels to make use of waste cooking oil from concessions tenants at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall). The project will see low emission biofuels created from the oil, which will be suitable for running automobiles.

Processed oil has been used for a number of years as a source for biodiesel production, but the new project highlights how industry can help with the creation of cleaner fuels. Around 100 gallons of waste oil from the concessions can be used to create around 70 gallons of biodiesel. This can cut carbon dioxide emissions by around 1,212 pounds, creating cleaner running fuel and helping to reduce companies and individuals' carbon footprints.

The environmentally-friendly waste solution can help the company reduce emissions by around 78 per cent. Airmall will be working with Greenlight Biofuels to collect all of the waste cooking oil and transport it to a biodiesel production facility to be transformed into biofuels. It will suitable for use in any diesel engine and will meet with all the fuel standards that have been put in place by government agencies.
