Low Maintenance Gas Analysers on Show

Mar 16 2015

Zirconia oxyde sensors have been proven reliable in numerous applications to analyse or detect oxygen in flue gases or other process applications. The advantage of these sensors is their high resistance against temperature variations and high gas temperatures. By placing the sensors directly into the gas stream (in-situ) very short reaction times can be obtained.

The disadvantage of the in-situ placement is the direct exposition of the sensors to all contaminants which may be carried by the gas stream such as dust particulates. This could block the active surface of the sensors up to the point of loss of function at all.

To avoid these problems, it has become common standard to fit filter elements up stream the sensors. This improves the life time of the sensors but increases the demand for maintenance drastically. The Bühler (Germany) BA 2000 series eliminates this disadvantage. The unit provides a heated filter cove with integrated aspirator. The filter element is directly accessable while the analyser remains completely in place. The gas drawn by the aspirator is lead through the filter element first, then exposed to the zirconia sensor and returned into the process. This arrangement keeps the sensor completely free of particulate contamination and still allows very fast reaction time and thus, fast analysis. The down time for filter maintenance is reduced to just a few minutes without the need for tools.

The analyser comes with a foldable weather protection and efficient insulation, and can be viewed at AQE, stand 77.
