Dual H2S/CO2 analyser for gas processing applications

Hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2) are common components found in natural gas and crude petroleum. Monitoring and then removing these impurities is imperative for gas transmission pipeline maintenance and quality control purposes. KECO has devised an instrument that offers reliable and accurate monitoring for such applications, enabling operators to take the right course of action to avoid costly and time-consuming maintenance or compromising the end product. The KECO CS Hound Dual Analyser, is a versatile instrument designed for precise H2S and CO2 measurements in natural gas, biogas, and air.

The CS Hound Dual Analyser combines the capabilities of KECO’s well-established SulfurHound H2S Gas Analyser and the CarbonHound CO2 Gas Analyser. It offers a cost-effective solution for measuring H2S and CO2 concentrations, using advanced microprocessor-based technology and cutting-edge sensor technologies.

The gas under analysis, which contains H2S and CO2, undergoes regulation to 10 psi and a controlled flow at approximately 1.5 Standard Cubic Feet per Hour (SCFH). The gas is then introduced to an electrochemical detection element and NDIR sensor, which provide proportional gas concentration output. A microprocessor interprets the 4-20mA DC output, the results are viewed on a user-friendly touch-screen LCD display offering access to real-time data, historical readings, alarms, and failure indication.

The CS Hound Dual Analyser measures CO2 concentrations ranging from 0 to 500 parts per million by volume (ppm/v) up to 100% by volume, along with H2S measurements ranging from 0 to 2000 ppm by volume. Concentration and diagnostic alarms are transmitted via the Modbus interface and sensor feedback. The analyser operates in temperatures from -10°C to 50°C and is suitable for use in Division 2 (Zone 2) hazardous environments. Its low-maintenance design eliminates the need for consumables like paper tapes, solutions, or scrubber media, ensuring long-term operation in harsh process streams.
