Climate-positive production site breaks ground in Lahr
Jan 31 2024
Temperature control technology specialist, Julabo, celebrated the ground-breaking ceremony for its state-of-the-art production site at the startkLahr Airport & Business Park. The climate-positive facility, designed to German Sustainable Building Council standards, anticipates completion within a year.
Markus and Jennifer Juchheim, proprietors of the project, joined Lahr's Lord Mayor Markus Ibert in commemorating the occasion by sealing a time capsule to be embedded in the building. Housing a daily newspaper, a €1 coin from 2024, construction plans, an employee magazine, and the iconic Julabo frog as a charm, the capsule symbolises preserving a snapshot of the era's culture for future generations.
After the successful groundwork in December 2023, the construction phase is set to commence on the nearly 5,000 m² production and logistics building. The CEO of Julabo, Markus Juchheim, outlined the plan to relocate specific areas of series production and logistics to Lahr by spring 2025. With production capacity nearly exhausted in their Seelbach headquarters, the new facility will enable sustainable growth.
The facility, spanning approximately 30,000 m², offers room for future expansion phases. Mayor Markus Ibert expressed enthusiasm about facilitating the growth of a successful regional enterprise, emphasising the economic and developmental benefits for the region.
Designed in compliance with German Sustainable Building Council criteria, the building prioritises resource conservation and energy efficiency. Architect Lioba Keienburg highlighted the use of recycled materials, wood as a renewable resource for the supporting structure, and a green roof for summer heat protection. A photovoltaic system on the roof, coupled with efficient technology and a heat pump for passive heating and cooling, ensures the building's energy self-sufficiency.
The strategic corporate initiative, GoGreen, aligns with Julabo's commitment to sustainability and economic efficiency. The Lahr location, strategically positioned on Autobahn A5 with excellent connectivity, promises easily accessible and future-proof employment opportunities.
