Anton Paar launches the Multiwave 7101/7301/7501 Series

Nov 21 2023

With decades of experience in pressurised acid digestion and microwave technology, Anton Paar is proud to introduce the Multiwave 7101/7301/7501 series.

New high-performance instruments

For the first time, Anton Paar unveils a family of high-performance instruments based on the pressurised digestion cavity (PDC) concept. The PDC is a stainless-steel pressure vessel with microwave heating and water cooling to minimise the time spent for digesting samples, all brought together in a compact, convenient device.

Pressurisation of the chamber with nitrogen prevents the vial contents from boiling so that no cross-contamination takes place. This means that samples can be digested in thin-walled borosilicate glass, quartz, or PTFE-TFM vials, which keeps consumable costs low. A load solution in the liner provides uniform heating, independent of the number of vials or amount of acid. This allows users to digest different samples, with different reagents, using different vial materials – all in the same run, for up to 28 samples. Thus, the need for extensive method development or grouping similar samples is eliminated.

Digestion made easy

A streamlined workflow with software-guided procedures makes sample preparation in the Multiwave 7101/7301/7501 microwave digestion systems easier than ever:

  • Samples are weighed into glass, PTFE-TFM, or quartz vials
  • Reagents are added
  • Vials are closed with plug-on caps (optionally, sealed quartz vessels are available for special applications)
  • The closed vials or vessels are placed into a rack, which is immersed into a liner. This liner is filled with a microwave-absorbing load solution
  • Then, the liner is put into the PDC, which is closed and automatically pressurised with the right amount of nitrogen
  • Microwave energy is applied and automatically adjusted according to the preselected temperature program
  • The filling gas pressure suppresses boiling, foaming, or loss of volatile elements
  • After the temperature program has finished, the instrument cools down and depressurises the PDC automatically
  • With a liner lift, the liner is conveniently and safely removed from the cavity and serves as a transportation vessel to the fume hood for further sample processing

Space saving and safe

Lab space is a precious resource. With that in mind, Anton Paar has designed its microwave digestion systems with minimal space requirements. With their integrated water coolers, Multiwave 7301 and 7501 save you even more space. Multiple safety features, including redundant safety systems, software safeguards, window shield, and drip cup, make Multiwave 7101/7301/7501 the safest microwave digestion systems of their kind, bearing the 'Approved Safety' mark.

Low detection limits

Many industries are moving towards lower detection limits. Multiwave 7101/7301/7501 offers efficient digestion with low acid amounts to minimise blank levels and dilution factors. At the same time, high sample weights of up to 4 g and ultrapure quartz vials help to further push the achievable limit of detection. No minimum filling volume applies. The reagent amount can be chosen exclusively based on the sample amount and vial size.

Broad reaction parameters

The PDC concept enables reaction parameters of up to 300°C and 199 bar ensuring complete digestions, from routine samples to the most demanding ones. All of this leads to low residual carbon contents and a significant acid amount reduction compared to traditional microwave digestion, resulting in interference-free elemental analysis with AAS, ICP-OES, or ICP-MS. This means reduced cost of ownership, not only for the digestion itself but also for the analytical equipment.

Pre-installed methods

All common standard methods are already implemented in the instrument software. The powerful microwave digestion systems allow for fast heating, such as required in EPA method 3051 A (170°C in 5.5 minutes), using less than 55% of their installed power. Whatever the method demands – Multiwave 7101/7301/7501 will handle it for you.

Ready for regulation environments

For regulated environments, Anton Paar provides 21 CFR Part 11 compliant software with the Multiwave 7101/7301/7501 series. The optionally available comprehensive Pharma Qualification documentation ensures qualification of the microwave digestion system within one working day.

The final word

With the Multiwave 7101/7301/7501 series, Anton Paar offers researchers, scientists, and laboratory professionals unparalleled precision, efficiency, and flexibility in their sample preparation processes.
