Newly-Launched Sensor Enhanced for Exceptional Lifetime Performance

Aug 30 2016 Comments 0

As part of its on-going strategy to continue delivering the best performing PIDs (photoionisation detectors) in the industry, Ion Science (www.ionscience.com) has introduced several ground-breaking enhancements to its recently launched MiniPID 2 sensor. The most significant development is a new long-life 10.6 eV lamp that offers an unrivalled 10,000 hours continuous operation.

As a leading manufacturer of advanced gas detection instrumentation for global environmental and occupational health monitoring applications, Ion Science has also incorporated an innovative self-diagnostic feature within the MiniPID 2 that indicates whether the lamp is failing to illuminate or the electrode stack is contaminated.

Ion Science’s new lamp offers the dual benefit of a proven 60% increase in life span and improved stability for more accurate measurement during long-term continuous monitoring applications. Other advantages include simplified spares ordering and reduced need for servicing.

All Ion Science 10.6 eV and 10 eV MiniPID instruments will have the new lamp fitted as standard, ensuring reliable, long-term performance underlined by a lifetime of over 10,000 hours continuous operation.

Ion Science’s MiniPID 2 offers a raft of benefits, including improved temperature stability, greater sensor-to-sensor consistency and more repeatable performance. It provides fast, accurate and humidity resistant detection of VOC (volatile organic compound) gases and is also interchangeable with the original MiniPID.

Amongst the additional advantages offered by Ion Science’s new MiniPID 2 sensor are lower running current, robust lamp illumination and more reliable operation at extreme temperatures.  It gives stability, control and reliability benefits that are unavailable in other PID designs, and does not change linearity, signal range, response time or any other similar specified performance.

Duncan Johns, Managing Director at Ion Science comments: “This new lamp really does set a new benchmark in PID sensor design. Like all Ion Science products, it was developed as a result of market feedback and our commitment to a programme of continuous improvement where we strive to deliver ever better performing PID sensors to our global customer base.”

The newly launched Ion Science MiniPID 2 sensor will be incorporated into the company’s wide range of PID instrumentation, such as the well proven Tiger handheld monitor and the world’s first benzene specific monitor, Titan.

It will also be featured in the new Falco series of fixed continuous VOC monitors for the on-going protection of workers operating in potentially hazardous industrial environments, such as refineries, petrochemical plants and laboratories. Incorporating first of a kind ‘typhoon’ technology for added reliability, Falco is specially designed to work in condensing atmospheres and extreme weather conditions.  It also boasts an externally located, IS sensor to facilitate quick and easy servicing without the need for a hot work permit.
