Fast and reliable TDL analysis

Sep 25 2018

For gas analysis applications in fired heater control, Tunable Diode Laser (TDL) technologies have emerged as a reliable and fast response tool to ensure safety within the combustion process.

TDL measurement for carbon monoxide (CO) show a marked improvement in performance over alternative methods such as pellistor or thick film sensors, due to its light-based technology.

The realisation that a fuel-rich environment is a potential source of explosions has moved CH4 analysis from a largely ignored measurement to a key safety monitoring requirement.

The increasing use of low-NOx burners, which are highly effective at reducing unwanted NOx emissions, but run a cooler, larger flame is inherently less stable. This flame instability is leading to the requirement for improved flame-out protection, and customers who use natural or refinery gas as a fuel, have begun to use TDL analysers as part of the safety system.

Servomex’s TDL gas analyser, the SERVOTOUGH Laser 3 Plus combines the latest Wavelength Modulated Spectroscopy (WMS) measurement techniques with Servomex’s signal processing, to provide stable, repeatable results. Delivering a response within seconds, it is optimised for the measurement of O2, CO or a combination of CH4 and CO in hazardous environments.
