Simple solutions for flammable refrigerant gases

Oct 08 2019

If you are a user or supplier of refrigeration equipment to the European market you will be very aware of the progressing legislation driving the transition to refrigerant gases with a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP). The European legislation in 2020 outlaws the use of refrigerants with a GWP above 2500 thus accelerating the progressive change from the use of high GWP refrigerant gases to the new lower GWP gases like R290, R1234, CO2 and Ammonia. The practice and use of the new refrigerant gases offers a more planet friendly solution but they also introduce other safety issues for the equipment and its placement. The new refrigerant gases like R290, R1234 and Ammonia are flammable or semi-flammable. The flammability needs careful consideration as to where the equipment is fitted especially within a confined space.  A confined space with the refrigeration equipment fitted and charged with a flammable gas now becomes a Hazardous Area under ATEX requiring a gas detection system of some form to meet ATEX requirements and worker safety legislation.

SGX refrigerant gas sensors use infrared technology which offers a simple low maintenance solution for use in refrigerant gas leakage detection and flammable Lower Explosive Limit monitoring solutions for hazardous areas.

The key benefits;

  • R290, R32 and R1234 versions available.
  • Hazardous Area EX certified.
  • Integrated microprocessor
  • Individually addressable digital output
  • Digital and Analogue output available
  • Factory calibrated
  • Temperature compensated
  • Mechanical robust and chemical resistant

If you are a manufacturer of refrigeration equipment that is being fitted into the European market and require more information on the SGX refrigeration gas sensor solutions then please contact one of our knowledgeable sales team or our network of local distributors for more information or samples for evaluation. Either complete the form online or email us.
