Cutting Edge Gas Detection Instrumentation

Jul 12 2017

Ion Science will be showing a wide range of high performance gas detection instrumentation at SPE Offshore Europe 2017, including its advanced Titan continuous benzene specific monitor for the accurate detection of ambient benzene andFalco series of fixed continuous volatile organic compound (VOC) monitors with ‘typhoon’ technology for added reliability in condensing atmospheres and extreme weather conditions. In addition, the company’s well-proven Tiger handheld VOC detector, Cub personal photoionisation detector (PID) and Tiger Select benzene and total aromatic compound (TAC) detector will be on display.

Ion Science’s Falco series of fixed continuous VOC detectors ensure the on-going protection of workers operating in potentially hazardous industrial environments, such as refineries, petrochemical plants and laboratories. Boasting fast response times, simple operation and several innovative design features, the instrument’s innovative typhoon technology prevents condensation forming on the sensor and removes the risk of sensor failure. An external intrinsically safe (IS) sensor facilitates quick and easy servicing without the need for a hot work permit.

As the world’s first truly selective wall-mounted benzene monitor, the Ion Science Titan is proving to be a real game changer for the petrochemical industry, and refinery applications in particular. Incorporating Ion Science’s latest MiniPID 2 technology at the heart of the instrument, Titan is highly sensitive and capable of detecting benzene levels down to 0.1ppm and up to 20ppm.

Offering rapid and accurate detection, Titan continuously samples and analyses the environment to provide real-time feedback of ambient benzene levels. When a sample is taken, the benzene component is chemically filtered using a robust separation technology ensuring no false-positives are measured with potential cross-contaminating compounds in the atmosphere.

Like all Ion Science PID instruments, Titan utilises the company’s unique patented Fence Electrode technology for unrivalled resistance to humidity and contamination. This key feature makes Titan ideal for extended operation in harsh environments.

Ion Science’s Titan features a clear display and provides users with an immediate warning alarm system when hazardous levels of benzene are detected ensuring the on-going safety and protection of workers. Designed to operate in conditions ranging from -20 ºC up to +60 ºC , Titan is unaffected by changes in ambient temperature.

Offering a robust and reliable design, the well-proven Intrinsically Safe Tiger handheld PID also features Fence Electrode technology and provides a dynamic detection range from one ppb up to 20,000 ppm, which is the widest measurement range of any VOC instrument on the market.

Ion Science’s Cub personal PID monitor is the world’s smallest, lightest and most sensitive gas detector for the accurate detection of VOCs and TACs. With market-leading ppb sensitivity, Cub features an audible, vibrating and flashing LED alarm designed to give workers an early warning of exposure to hazardous gases, including benzene, before they reach harmful levels.

The Tiger Select is a revolutionary handheld gas detector with two mode operation for the rapid and accurate detection of benzene and TACs. Utilising the high output Ion Science 10.0eV lamp configuration, a reading for TACs is seen immediately on start-up. Should TACs be detected, a benzene pre-filter tube can be easily attached to ensure rapid detection and selective measurement of benzene.
