Revolutionary method for determining mercury in seawater with Atomic Fluorescence Spectroscopy (AFS)

Jan 24 2023

Coastal and seawater matrices are known to be some of the most challenging sample types to analyse due to their ultra-trace concentrations of target analytes and high total dissolved solids (TDS) present. Traditional methods of analysis, such as the common ICP-MS approach, often face matrix and spectral interferences that make accurate and precise analysis difficult.

PS Analytical’s Millennium Merlin 1631 AFS system has been specifically designed for Hg analysis in seawater. The system is not subject to the interferences caused by high TDS or polyatomic spectral issues, making it the ideal choice for seawater analysis.

The AFS systems offer excellent sensitivity (in the ppt range), wide linear working ranges, ease of use, and a rapid return on investment. Additionally, the analysers can also be used to determine mercury in other environmental matrices such as drinking water, wastewater, soils, sediments, and sludges.
