The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) and Media 10 have announced an exciting partnership to hold the 2017 LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards presentation gala dinner alongside Energy 2017 at the Concourse Suites 1 & 2, NEC, Birmingham on the evening of Wednesday October 11.

The prestigious LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards celebrate examples of outstanding and innovative practice across all areas in accelerating the shift to lower carbon vehicles and fuels and reducing road transport emissions.

The largest event of its kind in the UK, Energy 2017 will include information and guidance on low carbon vehicles and the business opportunities they can offer. The three-day show will bring together energy suppliers and managers, manufacturers, developers, consultants, distributors, engineers, architects, FM professionals and end-users, offering them an ideal platform to find out about the latest energy-based trends and uncover innovative new products and solutions. The exponential growth of the low carbon vehicles and fuels sector is transforming the transport industry and will also have a profound impact on the built sector, particularly as demand for home-charged electric vehicles grows. Energy 2017 will be the perfect place to discover more about the growing interactions between buildings, energy and transport and to learn about future sustainable mobility options.

The LowCVP recently opened the call for nominations to the 2017 Low Carbon Champions Awards. The deadline for full submissions is Friday 16 June and entries are welcomed from both members and non-members of the Partnership.

There are seven award categories – plus two special awards - ranging from cars to innovation, from fuels to publications. The Award categories are: Low Carbon Car/Van Manufacturer of the Year , Low Carbon Heavy Duty Vehicle Manufacturer of the Year , Low Carbon Vehicle Operator of the Year , Low Carbon Fuel Initiative of the Year , Award for Low Carbon Innovation by an SME , Low Carbon Road Transport Initiative of the Year, Outstanding Low Carbon Publication or Report.

Special Awards include:

• Outstanding Individual in Promoting Lower Carbon Transport

• Grand Prix Award (“winner-of-winners”): Outstanding Achievement in Low Carbon Transport 2016–17

Any organisation or initiative that has made a contribution to the low carbon vehicle or fuels agenda in road transport is eligible to enter the Champions. There is no cost to enter the awards and finalists will receive a complimentary invitation to the celebration dinner.

LowCVP Awards winners are assessed by a panel of expert judges drawn from the LowCVP’s wide range of stakeholder organisations. Awards are for contribution to the low carbon road transport agenda with significant activity taking place from January 2016 to date. Andy Eastlake, the LowCVP’s Managing Director, said: “The LowCVP welcomes the collaboration with Media 10 in hosting this year’s Champions Awards. The association with Energy 2017, combining stakeholders in both events – and the wider Construction Week event, of which Energy 2017 is a part - will give excellent exposure for entrants (especially, Award winners!) sponsors and other participants. The Champions Awards are now in their seventh year and we are looking forward to hosting this exciting celebration in the midlands for the first time this October.”

Nathan Garnett, Event Director for Energy 2017, added: “We are very excited to be hosting the LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards and look forward to welcoming the winners to Energy 2017. The shift towards low carbon vehicles continues to gather pace and it’s vital that we identify and reward those industry pioneers who have shown outstanding levels of dedication in helping to reduce road transport emissions.”

Winners of the 2016 LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards included: Toyota GB; Scania GB; First UK Bus; Argent Energy; Tevva Motors; H2 Aberdeen, Element Energy & Cambridge Econometrics (joint winners). Sir Peter Hendy, formerly Commissioner at Transport for London, was the winner of the Outstanding Individual Award, while H2 Aberdeen & Argent Energy were joint winners of the ‘Grand Prix’ Award.

The LowCVP Low Carbon Champions Awards are accredited by the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), which means the winners are eligible to enter the highly prestigious biannual European Awards for Business and the Environment (EBAE).

The LowCVP and Media 10 are inviting offers of sponsorship for the 2017 Low Carbon Champions Awards. Sponsorship includes wide-ranging promotion alongside the awards and a great opportunity to network and build business links at the gala celebration dinner. Last year’s sponsors included Millbrook (‘Grand Prix’); the Advanced Propulsion Centre; Michelin; BAE Systems HybriDrive; Shell; Freight in the City; Route Monkey and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
