Elemental analysis by energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) is a well-established technique for the petroleum and petrochemical industries — from quantifying heavy elements in crude oil to sulphur in fuels to various elements in lubricating oils. EDXRF elemental analysers are also compact, occupying only a small space in the lab or testing facility, and are more economical than larger, more expensive systems. There is minimal sample preparation, and they comply with various testing methods and standards. With multi-element analysis capabilities, Rigaku EDXRF products show versatility for many screening requirements and replace the need for multiple single-element analysers. Additionally, Rigaku EDXRF systems address a wide range of needs for refineries, contract labs, and R&D facilities.

Rigaku EDXRF benchtops include NEX QC Series for routine quality control, NEX DE for more demanding applications, and the powerful NEX CG II for complex applications and research. Users can measure sulphur, chlorine, and metals — and with multi-element and multi-purpose capabilities, Rigaku EDXRFs offer exceptional versatility to meet ASTM, EPA, and international compliance. NEX QC Series are compact analysers combining superior performance capabilities with affordability. They are lightweight, portable, and do not require an external PC. The touchscreen interface and built-in printer make these instruments easy to use and convenient. Whether on the plant floor or in remote field environments, they are well-suited for measuring sulphur in oils per ASTM D4294, sulphur in crude, bunker fuel, nickel and vanadium in crudes per ASTM D8252-19 and other petroleum-related applications. NEX QC Series also offer compliance with ISO 13032 for ULSD and lead in gasoline per ASTM D5059.

NEX DE delivers high-performance results when analysis time or sample throughput is critical. It is ideal for quick ASTM D8252-19 compliance of nickel and vanadium, measuring chlorine per ASTM D4929 Part C, and more. Users can quickly analyse sulphur, vanadium, iron, and nickel in crude, residual oil, bunker fuels, and other heavy hydrocarbon oils.

NEX CG II offers rapid, reliable measuring and monitoring for ultra-low sulphur applications, chlorine, metals, and much more. It is an indirect excitation system using secondary targets rather than tube filters, and monochromatic and polarised excitation from secondary targets in full 90° Cartesian Geometry eliminates background noise and delivers exceptionally low detection limits. NEX CG II provides ASTM and international compliance performance to test ULSD and meet Tier 3 gasoline requirements per ASTM D7220. Users can analyse manganese in MoGas and AvGas at low and ultra-low levels per ASTM D5059 Part D and easily meet ASTM D5059 Parts C and A compliance using the Bi internal standard method to measure lead in gasoline samples. It also delivers the lowest chlorine detection limits for ASTM D4929 Part C.
