No injuries following hydrocarbon leak

An oil industry company has confirmed that there were no injuries following a leak at one of its refineries.

Imperial Oil said that repairs are underway following the hydrocarbon leak at its refinery near Edmonton, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.

John Harding, the company spokesman said that nobody had been hurt as a result of the leak, which was detected yesterday (December 6th).

There is a chance that residents in the area will notice a gasoline smell until the air clears, he said, adding that the air quality was being monitored and posed no problems to health.

However, he conceded that he was unaware what kind and quantity of hydrocarbons were released during the leak.

According to NJ.com, Salem County officials were unaware that a Delaware City Refinery was forced to vent toxic chemicals following problems at the plant.

"I am appalled and dismayed that the State of Delaware chose not to follow protocol during this incident by submitting a report to the State of New Jersey," said County administrator Earl R Gage told the source.
