Bruker Launches Compass CDS software control for Agilent’s 5890, 6890, and 7890 gas chromatographs

Jul 16 2014

Bruker is pleased to announce completion of a significant project to enhance the performance and utility of the Compass CDS and Compass C/S software products. Following the recent announcement of a hardware driver sharing agreement with Agilent, Bruker announces the release of instrument control drivers for the Agilent 5890, 6890, and 7890 gas chromatographs and Agilent’s 7683 and 7694 liquid and headspace auto samplers. These new control drivers are available for upgrade to existing Compass CDS and C/S systems.

The addition of the Agilent control drivers now allows users of the previous GalaxieTM data system to cross grade to the new Compass CDS system and maintain driver control for their Agilent 5890, 6890, and 7890 systems. Cross grading to the new Compass platform allows users to maintain their expertise gained for the Galaxie platform and now enjoy continued development and support with Bruker’s new Compass CDS system.

Bruker recently released Compass 3.0.1, which delivers a range of benefits for users including:

Dual View – The Dual View option is now active by default in the Data view when a sequence is loaded.

Dual View combines views of running sequences (the Data view) and active acquisitions (the System view) into a single screen, enabling users to see sequence progression, view active data acquisition and reprocess chromatograms without having to toggle between the Data and Systems views. When used in conjunction with the InstantView plug-in (see below),which provides instant post-run data review, this feature significantly improves workflow.

InstantView – A plug-in that enables users to specify the number of runs that will be automatically loaded into the Data view for review and processing directly after each run from either Quickstart or a Sequence. This plug-in eliminates the requirement for users having to search for data files in order to reprocess these.

1-Button Interface – A plug-in Graphical User Interface (GUI) that enables operator level users to quickly execute runs using individual icons to specify the type and number of sample, multi-level re-calibration, and, if required, continuous looping runs. The 1-Button interface also allows the use of CompassCDS custom variables and multi-channel reporting.

21 CFR Part 11 Support – Full support of 21CFR Part 11 installations. All IQOQ qualification protocol documents and test data are included on the CompassCDS DVD.

Concurrent user licensing – The ability to add concurrent user licenses for CompassCDS client/server Citrix metaframe installations has been restored.

Network Attached Storage (NAS) – CompassCDS 3.0.1 supports storage of data, methods, sequences etc. on NAS and other remote storage devices.

Supported Operating Systems include – Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3, Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit), Windows 2003/2008/2012 Server (32 & 64 bit).

These are only a few of the new enhancements to the Compass data system in version 3.0.1. For more information please contact your local sales person or to see the latest presentation click here.

Analysis of Sulfur Components in Various Liquid Petroleum Gases: Application Note

Bruker has developed a two-channel configuration for the low level analysis of sulfur containing compounds in liquid petroleum gases (LPG). LPG analysis is challenging as the system has to be inert and the column used must be able to separate the component of interest. In place of a standard Flame Photmetric detector (FPD), this system utilizes dual Pulsed Flame Photometric detectors (PFPD) to greatly reduce the sulfur signal in the presence of high hydrocarbon levels. A micro-gasifier in front of the injection valves enables the direct coupling of an LPG stream to the GC. The complete sample path is UltiMetalTM deactivated, ensuring an inert system preventing adsorption of sulfur components for a trouble free analysis. The two different columns, each equipped with a PFPD detector, ensure maximum flexibility and excellent separation, independent of the bulk component. The system demonstrated high repeatability for the analysis of low level sulfur-containing components.
