Safety, Alarm and Shutdown Protection Solutions Exhibited at Achema 2015

Jun 22 2015

United Electric Controls (USA), manufacturer of pressure and temperature transmitters and switches, demonstrated its line of unique safety, alarm and shutdown protection solutions for chemical producers at Achema 2015. The exhibit featured the company’s new One Series Safety Transmitter, the first SIL 2-certified hybrid transmitter-switch designed solely for safety system applications. UE also showed specialty transmitters and switches designed to support other critical chemical production functions.

Unlike costly, overcomplicated process transmitters that must be adapted for safety use, UE’s patented One Series is engineered to protect, giving safety teams simple setup and fast, safer and affordable performance - from the start.

The new One Series Safety Transmitter is available in versions that monitor temperature and pressure, and integrates a safety logic solver and high speed relay.

“The certified hybrid Safety Transmitter and its companion hazardous location versions are ideal for new greenfield projects and modernisation of brownfield safety systems. Its hybrid functionality provides an analogue transmitter output for newer safety systems, discrete switch outputs for old legacy systems, and its embedded logic solver takes the place of separate LC typical of safety systems that require separate programming and commissioning. Combining all these factory tested and third-party certified components into a compact package reduces cost, labour, and human error while improving safety” said Will Chin, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, United Electric Controls.

The One Series Safety Transmitter provides 4-20 mA NAMUR standard output with exclusive “I Am WorkingTM” diagnostics. A unique, high-speed safety relay output is incorporated for local alarm or emergency shutdown. Discrete outputs deliver diagnostics and relay status voting logical input to the safety PLC to determine appropriate action. The transmitter is certified for use in SIL 2 safety instrumented systems, and is capable is SIL 3, per IEC 61508. It has configurable self-diagnostics and achieves a safe failure fraction of 98.8%. Instrument response time is <100 milliseconds.

Also on display at Achema were the: One Series X intrinsically safe and flameproof transmitter-switches; TX200H Series HART® smart explosion proof pressure transmitters; TX200 Series ASIC, Ex d pressure transmitter; 120 Series explosion-proof pressure, vacuum, differential pressure and temperature switches; 12 Series vibration resistant, 316 stainless steel pressure, differential pressure and temperature switches; and the 117 Series hermetically sealed pressure switches, vacuum switches, differential pressure switches and temperature switches.
