In Austria, OMV operates tank farms in Lustenau, Graz, St. Valentin and in Lobau, Viennas oil harbour. The tank farm in Lobau, with an area of approx. 1.08 km2 , is the biggest of its kind in Austria. It is connected via the 172 km long Product Pipeline West (PLW) with the St.Valentin tank farm. Approx. 1.4 mio tonnes of mineral oil products flow through PLW annually. The containers in the Lobau tank farm have a volume between 1,000 and 130,000 m3; with a total capacitiy of over 1.63 mio m3. Construction and extra equipment (container heating etc.), must be adapted to the 12-15 individual mineral oil products in the tanks which are mixed to produce finished oil products. Large volumes of mandatory emergency reserves of mineral oil products and raw oils are also stored here. Furthermore, new products such as biodiesel and bioethanol require continuously new processes.

This is why OMV selected Promass mass flowmeters from Endress+Hauser (Switzerland). Promass enables highly accurate in-line measurement of mass, density and velocity as well as temperature and viscosity all at the same time. Thus the components necessary for individual mineral oil products, including new products such as biodiesel and bioethanol, are carried out automatically and with great accuracy according to custody transfer requirements.
