Injection of a representative amount of liquids & gases into a GC System

Jan 20 2016

To allow a representative sample injection of a liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon stream such as LPG or Propane Da Vinci Laboratory Solutions developed the DVLS Pressure Station. The pressure station injects a hydrocarbon sample into a GC system and keeps the pressure at a constant level.

Proven & Safe Technology
For liquid samples the DVLS Pressure Station adds high pressure Nitrogen to the sample cylinder and controls the outlet pressure and flow.
For gas samples a vaporiser is used to avoid condensation and to control the temperature and pressure in the sample loop.
The sample cylinder is installed on the front side of the pressure station using the quick connectors. The waste sample is vented to a central waste system or to a waste line that leads the vapor directly outside the building to ensure the lab safety. This technology has been proven in several applications that require a representative sample injection, such as Propane, LPG, Butadiene and Pentane.

Flexible Design
Select from the following flexible configuration options to fully meet your requirements.

  • A configuration including a needle valve dedicated to the injection of liquid hydrocarbon samples
  • A model configured with a vaporiser to enable the injection of pressurised gases
  • A configuration including a back pressure regulator to control the pressure
  • Various brands of quick connectors such as Swagelok, Walthers and other suppliers to enable the use of different cylinder sizes.

The Pressure Station can be used standalone or combined with the DVLS Liquefied Gas Injector a GC solution that is originally developed for the analysis of oily residue in LPG and has been approved as ASTM D7756/EN 16423.

GC Analysis Standard
The LGI solution consists of an injector, a pressure station, a controller box and a GC. The injector is configured on top of the GC inlet and consists of a high pressure injection valve connected to an injection needle, which allows a direct injection. The Pressure Station is installed next to the GC and ensures that the Injector is filled with the sample in liquid phase. The Controller box drives the injection cycling.

The Injector includes the proven fuel direct injection technique used by the automotive industry to inject fuel into the automotive engine combustion chamber. The liquid sample is injected directly with a needle into the inlet similar as with an automatic liquid sampler. This avoids contact of the sample with transfer lines, vaporisers or valves and allows a good sample transfer into the heated zone of the inlet.

The DVLS Liquefied Gas Injector offers laboratories a safe and proven GC standard for various applications:

  • Oily residues and light contaminants in LPG (ASTM D7756, EN 16423)
  • Hydrocarbon composition of LPG (ASTM D 2163, ISO 7941)
  • Sulfur compounds in liquefied petroleum gases
  • Desulfurization additives in LPG
  • Inhibitors, additives & Dimers in Butadiene
  • N2, CO2, H2S & Hydrocarbons in Unstabilised Gas Condensate.
