A new standard in quantifiable iron corrosion detection

Jun 19 2023

Corrosion monitoring is of huge importance in the oil and gas industry, especially when it comes to monitoring the condition of pipes and tanks. To simplify the laborious process of quantifying corrosion levels during manual testing, Ayalytical’s Iron/Rust Digital Detection Imaging (FeDDI) was recently showcased at the STLE Meeting in Long Beach, California. This ground-breaking rust analyser from Ayalytical both enhances and simplifies the way we detect and measure iron corrosion, saving valuable time, money, and resources.

FeDDI eliminates the challenges associated with visual quantification, as outlined in NACE testing methods TM0172 and ASTM D665, by introducing an automated and highly accurate method. By scanning the entire surface area of a sample, FeDDI digitally quantifies corrosion coverage. Its patented four-step automated VISION Algorithm and classification process effectively eliminate user bias, providing repeatable and trustworthy results. With FeDDI, operators can be confident in the accuracy of their rust corrosion measurements.

FeDDI goes beyond simply improving the accuracy of corrosion testing. It also addresses common issues related to sample handling and errors, offering enhanced usability and efficiency. The device enables single hand loading through a two-part holder and clip, eliminating fingerprints and unwanted markings on the strips. Its advanced features include 360-degree auto recognition of slides A and B, auto rotation for full 360-degree recording, and convenient downloading of results. Furthermore, FeDDI offers multiple outlets for direct LIMS connectivity, including USB, Ethernet, and HDMI outputs, ensuring seamless integration with laboratory information management systems.

The device incorporates a high-resolution camera with state-of-the-art optics, enabling precise machining and motorised rotation and the analysis of steel specimens. By using a 4-step automated vision algorithm and classification process, FeDDI eliminates operator bias, providing precise and reliable measurements of corrosiveness in petroleum products. All results are digitally recorded and seamlessly integrated with LIMS software, streamlining data management and analysis.

FeDDI fully complies with ASTM D665 and D7548, offering both standard methods and refined methodologies for corrosion detection. Its user-friendly touchscreen software simplifies operation and provides easy access to results for users of all levels. With its 1-2-3 button operation and digital outcome and image logging, FeDDI offers an easy-to-use interface. Weighing in at a compact and lightweight 15 kg, with dimensions of 400 x 350 x 530 mm, FeDDI’s small footprint is designed for convenience. Furthermore, it supports multiple languages, providing print-outs and displays in English, Spanish, Russian, and Portuguese, with French and Chinese languages soon to be added.

With FeDDI, Ayalytical provides an unsurpassed standard in quantifiable iron corrosion detection. By automating and streamlining the process, FeDDI saves time, reduces costs, and enhances accuracy.
