Maximum Sample Throughput in Water Separation Characterisation

Apr 10 2015

The DH 5 from Anton Paar (Austria) is a Herschel emulsifier that serves to measure the ability of petroleum oils or synthetic fluids to separate from water. Although developed specifically for steam-turbine oils with viscosities of 28.8 cSt to 90 cSt (mm²/s) at 40 °C, this test method can be used to test other types of oils and other fluids with various viscosities.

With its state-of-the art design, DH 5 offers 8 positions therefore ensuring fast sample throughput as different samples can be heated at the same time. Two extra positions for pre-tempering are available. Temperature and stirring speed are pre-defined but can also be easily set to different values. The digital touchscreen displays temperature, stirrer speed and stirring time. A constant speed is guaranteed, even with changing viscosity. For convenient operation, the stirrer stops automatically after a selected time and gives an acoustic signal.

Unique safety standards make DH 5 a master of its class, also for higher temperatures up to 85 °C. The instrument comes with a protection cover around the stirrer as well as a protection vessel around the bath. DH 5 has an overtemperature switch and features low-level protection. In addition, there is a safety cut-off when lifting the stirrer.
